What this policy covers
This policy explains what information I collect when you visit the Site, why I collect it, how I use it, and your rights regarding your personal information. By using the Site you agree to the practices described here.
Information I collect
I collect two types of information:
1. Information you provide directly
When you sign up for email updates, I collect your email address. That's it — no name, no phone number, no address. You provide this voluntarily by entering it into the signup form.
2. Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, certain information is collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies.
This includes:
How you arrived at the Site (e.g. search engine, social media, direct link)
Which pages you visit and how long you spend on each
What you click on
Your approximate location (country/region, not your exact address)
Your device type, browser, and operating system
Your IP address (anonymised where possible)
This information is collected via analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Squarespace's built-in analytics.
Why I collect this information
Your email address is used solely to:
Send you occasional updates about new editions of the book, new resources, or future titles
Confirm your subscription and let you unsubscribe
I will not send daily emails, marketing tips, or unrelated content. As stated on the signup form: no spam, no daily emails, no "secret tips."
Cookie and analytics data is used to:
Understand how visitors find and use the Site
Improve the Site's content and structure
Measure the effectiveness of any external links pointing to the Site
How I use your email address
Your email is used only for the purposes above. I will never:
Sell your email address to third parties
Share it with advertisers
Use it for unrelated marketing
Pass it on to anyone other than the email platform that processes the sending
The email platform itself will have its own privacy policy governing how it handles your data on my behalf.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit websites. The Site uses:
Essential cookies - required for the Site to function properly. These cannot be disabled.
Analytics cookies - used to understand visitor behaviour.
These are optional and you can decline them via the cookie banner when you first visit the Site. You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect how the Site works for you.
Who I share your information with
Your information is shared only with:
The email marketing platform that sends my updates on my behalf
Analytics providers (Google Analytics, Squarespace Analytics) for the purpose described above
Squarespace (the website hosting platform) for technical operation of the Site
These third parties are bound by their own privacy policies and are not permitted to use your information for any purpose other than providing services to me.
How long I keep your information
I'll keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to updates. If you unsubscribe, your email will be removed from the active list within 30 days. Analytics data is typically retained by the analytics provider for the duration set in their default policy (usually 26 months for Google Analytics).
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:
Ask me what personal information I hold about you
Ask me to correct any information that's wrong
Ask me to delete your information
Unsubscribe from emails at any time (every email includes an unsubscribe link)
Withdraw consent for analytics cookies at any time

Specific rights under different laws
If you're in New Zealand: You have rights under the Privacy Act 2020, including the right to access and correct your personal information. You can also complain to the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
If you're in Australia: You have rights under the Privacy Act 1988. You can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
If you're in the European Union or UK: You have rights under the GDPR including data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you're in California, USA: You have rights under the CCPA including the right to know what information is collected and the right to deletion.
Children's privacy
The Site is not intended for children under 16. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has provided information, please contact me and I'll delete it immediately.
International transfers
My website hosting (Squarespace) and email platform may store data on servers outside New Zealand, including in the United States and Europe. By using the Site, you consent to this transfer.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Material changes will be communicated to email subscribers.
